Uploading your video is easy!

You have two options to upload your videos:

Option 1 - Webinterface (for files up to 200 MB)

For videos up to 200 MB you can use the webinterface that you will find on the tab above called "Videos Upload". Here is what you need to do:
  1. On your first visit, you have to create a new account. Simply click on "register here" and enter the information you are asked for on the next screen. You can access your movies anytime with this login information.
  2. Log in
  3. Click on "Browse" to find your file on your hard drive.
  4. Click on Upload. Allow several minutes to upload your file. There is no progress bar displayed during upload. However, you will see "Video saved successfully" right below the menu, once your movie has been saved on our server.
  5. Click on "My profile" and enter the following information:
    1. Your last name
    2. Your first name
    3. Your home country
    4. Your home town
    5. If you are a former or current exchange student: enter your program year and host country
    6. If you are a member of a current or former host family, enter the name of (one of) your exchange students, his or her home country and the year when you hosted him or her.
    7. Complete and submit a consent and release form for any individual appearing in your video entry.
IMPORTANT: Your entry is only accepted with the complete information mentioned above.
IMPORTANT: once uploaded, you can no longer edit or download your file. However, you can delete your entry if you would like, or you can replace it with an updated version by uploading a file with the exact same name as a previous version.

Option 2 - FTP Upload (for files bigger than 200 MB)

For videos bigger than 200 MB, you have to use ftp ("file transfer protocol") to upload your files. For this you need to have ftp client software on your computer. One of these software packages is called "Filezilla", and it can be downloaded for free (because it is an open source software) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla. Download and installation will take you about 5 minutes.

Once your software is installed, take the following steps:
  1. Click on the video tab and create your account. Simply click on "register here" and enter the information you are asked for on the next screen. You can access your movies anytime with the login information.
  2. Log in.
  3. Click on the link "here" under the heading "You do not have an FTP account". The system will create a temporary ftp account for you and display the hostname (videocontest.yfu.org), your username and password. You need this username and password to establish a connection with our server through your ftp client software.
  4. Set-up the account in your ftp client software by entering servername and password in your ftp client software (see tab "How to use Filezilla" for more details).
  5. Work with your client software to choose your file and upload it to our server. Once uploaded, you are not able to download it again. You can only delete it or replace it with a new version (simply upload an updated version that has exactly the same file name).
IMPORTANT: depending on the speed of your internet connection and the size of your file, uploading can take a long time (30 minutes or more). Therefore-- do not surf the internet during that time as this will slow down the upload. Instead, why not have a cup of coffee or write the e-mail you've needed to write for a loooong time.
  6. Once the upload is completed, go back to the website and click the refresh button in your browser.
  7. Click on "My profile" and enter the following information:
    1. Your name
    2. Your first name
    3. Your home country
    4. Your home town
    5. If you are a former or current exchange student: enter your program year and host country
    6. If you are a member of a current or former host family, enter the name of (one of) your exchange student, his home country and the year when you hosted him or her.
    7. Complete and submit a consent and release form for any individual appearing in your video entry.
IMPORTANT: Your entry is only accepted with the complete information mentioned above
